Biochemistry and the Management of Forests

About The Book

Biochemistry is concerned with the chemistry of life, and as such it employs analytical, organic, and physical chemistry techniques, as well as those of physiologists concerned with the molecular foundation of vital functions. Metabolism refers to all chemical changes that occur within an organism, whether they be the destruction of substances to provide necessary energy or the formation of complex molecules required for life functions. The evolution of cells was the most critical phase in the theory of life on Earth. The cell's birth heralded the transition from pre-biotic chemistry to partitioned units resembling modern cells. The ability to evolve efficiently by natural selection was required for the final shift to living creatures that fulfilled all of the definitions of contemporary cells. Forest management is a field of forestry that deals with general administrative, economic, legal, and social issues, as well as scientific and technical issues such as silviculture, protection, and forest regulation. Aesthetics, fish, recreation, urban values, water, wilderness, wildlife, timber products, forest genetic resources, and other forest resource values are all managed. Conservation, economics, or a combination of the two can be used to guide management. Timber extraction, planting and replanting of diverse species, cutting roads and trails through forests, and fire prevention are all techniques used. The book is well-structured, with an introduction to foods and nutrition, macro and micro nutrients, food processing and preservation techniques, and the nutritional and therapeutic value of various foods for health.
