Microbiology for Environment

About The Book

Environmental microbiology is a classic science that is also expanding quickly due to its significance in business, agriculture, pharmaceutical research, public health, geological explorations, bioenergetics, and as a way to access new sources of energy beneficial for diverse uses. Environmental microbiology is a crucial aspect of studies in microbiology. Studies also include germs found in bioreactors and other man-made habitats, allowing for a better knowledge of how microorganisms operate under unstimulated, natural conditions. The subject encompasses a wide range of processes, including bioremediation, geo microbiology, microbial diversity, and the nutrient cycle as mediated by microorganisms

Tim Stefan is currently an associate professor. In addition to serving as associate professor he is also Soil and Aquatic Microbiology Laboratory's director. He is an expert in the development and application of molecular technologies to speed up the identification and removal of environmental contaminants. This involves the discovery and characterisation of microbial populations and communities that contribute to applied remediation procedures including the bioremediation of organic and metal pollutants, as well as the identification of microbial pathogens from animal, human, and natural sources. He instructs students at the undergraduate and graduate levels in environmental soil science and environmental microbiology. He has authored or co-authored over 132 peer-reviewed academic papers, 32 book chapters, and 15 textbooks
